World Première Recordings of the complete original 1739 & 1756 versions
Israel in Egypt, Handel’s grand choral oratorio experiment, was a failure when first presented in London in 1739, yet it may well be the greatest work Handel ever composed. In 1756 the composer literally re-thought the work, substituting an entirely new first part. This recording presents both versions: Handel’s 1756 revision and the original part 1 from 1739. Julian Wachner makes his debut with the famous choir and baroque orchestra of Trinity Wall Street, in New York.
