Chiara Margarita Cozzolani: Concerti Sacri (1642) – Digital Download

$12.99 (Digital Download)

World Première Recordings of the complete surviving works

Following on our complete recording of Chiara Margarita Cozzolani’s 1650 Salmi a Otto Voci Concertati (MO 0401), the ensemble Magnificat, directed by Warren Stewart, now presents her 1642 Concerti Sacri, the second of four publications (1640, 1642, 1648 & 1650), only two of which survive in their entirety. Donna Chiara (1602 – c.1677) was one of the finest Italian composers of the generation after Monteverdi. She ultimately became Mother Superior of the convent of S. Radegonda in Milan, and famous throughout Italy. These performances present her music as she heard it: performed entirely by women’s voices.
