Moritz Ernst

Moritz Ernst was born in 1986 and began playing the piano at the age of five. After graduating from high school at sixteen, he continued his piano studies in 2002 at the Detmolder Musikhochschule where he also studied musicology. In 2003 he became a student of Peter Feuchtwanger in London. Shortly thereafter his concert activities were launched with regular performances in Europe and abroad. In 2005 Moritz Ernst continued his piano studies with Prof Jean-Jacques Dünki and harpsichord with Prof Jörg-Andreas Bötticher at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland. During these years of study, he attended master classes and workshops held by Günter Reinhold, Paul Badura-Skoda, Frederick Rzewski and the Auryn Quartet.

Moritz Ernst performs as pianist, harpsichordist and chamber musician in a wide range of repertoire from baroque to contemporary. Concerts include appearances at the Piano Festival Feuchtwangen, the Lake Constance Festival, the Beethoven Festival Bonn; with additional performances occurring throughout Europe, Russia, North America, Asia and Australia. He has also held master classes at the Conservatories of Stuttgart, Boston, Montreal, Lugano, Bern, Malmö, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai and performs regularly with major orchestras. Music of the 20th and 21st century is especially dear to his heart. Ernst has premiered several works as well as collaborating closely with composers such as Eötvös, Pelzel, Winkler, Bhagwati, Wohlhauser, Olofsson, Maros and others. The international press has recognized Moritz Ernst for his recordings of music by Sir Malcolm Arnold, Viktor Ullmann (complete works for piano), Norbert von Hannenheim, Arthur Lourié (complete works for piano), Walter Braunfels and Joseph Haydn. Moritz Ernst is a regular guest at major European radio stations.
