Max van Egmond, the esteemed Dutch
baritone, was born in Semarang, Indonesia in 1936. His career has
spanned more than 40 years, and he is acknowledged as one of the
greatest of all interpreters of the Baroque vocal repertoire. He
became especially famous for his work with Gustav Leonhardt,
Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Frans Brüggen as bass soloist in the
cantatas and passions of Johann Sebastian Bach. Max van Egmond is
also a notable interpreter of the Lieder of Schubert and Schumann,
as well as the chansons of
Gabriel Fauré. Max van Egmond's career in
the USA has been extensive and he has performed as recitalist and
with many of America's leading ensembles, including The Washington
Bach Consort, Boston Bach Ensemble and Publick Musick, of which he
is a regular member. He has recorded for many labels including EMI,
Teldec, Ricercar and Musica Omnia. |
